Brett Armbrust

Brett Armbrust is a law school graduate with a passion for litigation and advocacy, recently completing his legal education with top honours.

Background

Brett is a Juris Doctor graduate from Bond University in Australia, currently navigating the accreditation process for foreign-trained law students to qualify as an articling student. With his sights set on his eventual call to the bar, Brett brings a passion for litigation and advocacy, fortified by hands-on experience at McKnight Law, where he assisted in over 25 British Columbia Supreme Court trials prior to law school.

Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Brett’s early exposure to law through his father’s practice sparked a lifelong respect for the profession. Moving from Kansas City to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at eight years old and later to Victoria, British Columbia, at fourteen years old, Brett developed resilience, adaptability, and a proactive approach—traits he now brings into his
professional career.

During his studies, Brett distinguished himself with both academic and extracurricular achievements. At Bond, he excelled as a scholar and mooting competitor, earning recognition as Best Oralist of the Final Rounds in the prestigious Michael Kirby Contract Moot. His role as the team’s first speaker contributed to their runner-up finish among 25 teams across Australia.

Academically, Brett achieved 15 First-in-Class awards, appeared on the Vice Chancellor’s List of Excellence five out of six possible times. Additionally, he was honoured with the Executive Dean’s Award for maintaining the highest average grade percentage in each of his final two semesters, underscoring his dedication to excellence and his commitment to finishing strong.

Brett graduated as the top student in his class and was honored to be chosen as valedictorian. Brett’s upbringing, grounded in the steadfast support of his family, has instilled in him values of loyalty, integrity, and determination—qualities that guide his professional and personal life. As a former competitive athlete, he brings a unique blend of drive, tenacity, and a commitment to fairness to every aspect of his work, fueling his ambition to achieve the best outcomes for his future clients.

Outside of his professional life, Brett values maintaining an active and balanced lifestyle. He enjoys playing golf, staying fit, and has a lifelong affection for German Shepherds, having grown up with them. Taking his family dog for runs or hikes offers him a chance to unwind, connect with nature, and recharge away from his studies and legal work.

Brett is also an avid reader and enthusiastic sports fan, following a variety of teams across different leagues. Beyond his professional goals, he treasures quality time with his girlfriend, family, and friends, and his approachable nature allows him to connect easily with others. When not focused on the law, Brett can be found enjoying a game, exploring the outdoors, or spending time with loved ones, creating a well-rounded life that keeps him balanced and fulfilled.

As Brett begins his professional career, he brings a strong work ethic, a commitment to client advocacy, and a dedication to continuous growth—qualities that define a promising legal professional.

His academic performance was impressive: he was placed on the Vice Chancellor’s List and the Dean’s List for Academic Excellence in every semester of his Juris Doctor program; he was awarded ‘First in Class’ in 15 subjects; and he received Highest Achiever Award in Law in 2024. He proudly represented the Faculty of Law in several moot competitions including the Kirby Contract Law Moot and the Wilson Moot in Canada, winning several awards.
